Director of Economics and Program Development

Conservation Strategy Fund (CSF) is seeking a talented professional for a senior position with potential for advancement. The job involves working closely with CSF’s president to develop, secure funding for, and oversee initiatives that fulfill CSF’s mission: Teaching people to use economics and strategic thinking to conserve nature. The ideal candidate for this job is an experienced, dedicated professional with a strong economics background and skills in crafting and promoting program ideas. The person in this position will be part of CSF’s analyst corps and therefore will share responsibility for seeing that projects adhere to high standards of quality and that CSF is deploying economic tools in the most strategic way possible to accomplish its conservation goals.

Qualifications

• Experienced economist or policy analyst with solid background in microeconomics, environmental economics and/or resource economics
• Experience developing proposals and interacting with foundations
• Excellent writing skills
• Poise in verbal communications
• Ability to discern “big picture” strategic priorities and trends in conservation
• Ability to work with teams of analysts
• Fluent in English and strong skills in one other language, preferably Spanish or Portuguese. Other languages, such as French or Chinese, would be a plus.

Duties

• Developing and securing funding for conservation economics analysis and training programs
• Overseeing and assuring quality of work performed by CSF technical staff
• Communicating program accomplishments to foundation partners and others.

This position is based in CSF’s office in Sebastopol, in Northern California's wine country, one hour from downtown San Francisco, with great access to hiking, cycling and the coast.
