Understanding the forest restoration models used.

In August 2018, CSF-Brazil associates travelled to the municipality of Apuí, in southern Amazonas (AM) state. Through visits and conversations with various actors of the forest restoration value chain, we gathered information to support our economic and ecological feasibility analysis of forest restoration projects at the landscape level. During the visit, we observed the forest restoration model used by producers, as well as existing plant species. We conducted interviews with ten professionals, including rural producers and local forestry and agricultural assistance technicians. With the producers, we collected data on costs, productivity and revenues from forest restoration. We also inquired about future land-use plans and their ability to access credit and technical assistance for additional restorations for native and exotic plant species.

Ultimately, we are seeking to support climate change mitigation and forest restoration goals by identifying compelling business opportunities for the private sector, attracting financial investments in scalable, ecologically and economically feasible forest restoration projects in the southern AM region.
