Leonardo Bakker

Leonardo is an economist with 15 years of experience in environmental economics. Before joining CSF, Leonardo worked for the Environmental Economics Research Group at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ) and the Brazilian Biodiversity Fund (Funbio), where he developed expertise in conservation finance, the design of financial mechanisms, payment for environmental services, and the valuation of ecosystem services. Leonardo earned his bachelor’s degree in economics at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro and obtained a master’s degree in Public Policy and Development. He speaks Portuguese, English, and Spanish and has work experience in Brazil, Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, Guyana, Peru, and Suriname. In 2024, Leonardo became the CSF Brazil Technical Coordinator, focusing on various issues such as the economic valuation of gold mining, incentives for sustainable soybean production, carbon projects, and bioeconomy production, and designing financial strategies for protected areas. Leonardo is passionate about running, enjoys watching football games, and is fascinated by exploring new cuisines.
