In collaboration with Instituto Socioambiental (ISA) and Rede Xingu+, Conservation Strategy Fund Brazil worked on a project that focused on designing the structure of a fund to finance the implementation of Territorial and Environmental Management Plans (PGTA) in Indigenous lands within the Xingu region. The design process was made through a participatory methodology with the support from Rede Xingu+'s political committee. In this collaborative process, we also went through a capacity building stage for the political committee, explaining what environmental funds and financial mechanisms were. We developed recommendations for fund governance, operational processes, financial and resources distribution, and structural framework. The initiative aimed to show a financial possibility to foster biodiversity conservation, reinforce Indigenous cultures, and promote sustainable development throughout the Xingu region. The fund structure and operationalization processes were showcased and approved at the General Assembly of Rede Xingu in May 2024. With the strategic guidelines finalized, Rede Xingu+ will move forward with the remaining steps needed to establish the fund.
