CSF is collaborating with Conservation International Brazil (CI-Brasil) and Brazil’s Ministry of Environment and Climate Change (MMA) to develop a comprehensive proposal for submission to the Green Climate Fund (GCF). This initiative aims to promote socio-bioeconomy activities that enhance income generation, support climate adaptation, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions through the sustainable use of natural resources in the Amazon and other priority biomes within Brazil, such as the Cerrado and Caatinga.
Guided by Brazil's National Bioeconomy Strategy, the project focuses on empowering Indigenous Peoples, traditional communities, and local farmers by fostering innovation, advancing technologies, and building equitable governance systems. It also aims to address critical challenges such as deforestation, biodiversity loss, and infrastructure gaps, that hinder the full potential of bioeconomy initiatives.
This project will prioritize a participatory approach; engaging diverse stakeholders to co-create a Theory of Change, action plans, budgets, and monitoring frameworks. The solutions developed as a part of this project will align with the Green Climate Fund’s criteria for climate adaptation and mitigation, ensuring the project’s capacity to mobilize significant resources and drive systemic change.
It will explore solutions such as sustainable forest economies, equitable production and supply chains, and targeted investments in logistics and biotechnology to unlock the bioeconomy’s potential.
This initiative has the potential to drive transformative change by creating economic incentives for strengthened governance and conservation, by fostering partnerships across sectors, and by ultimately contributing to a sustainable and inclusive future for the Amazon and beyond.
