A Fruitful Discovery: Sustainable Agriculture for the Green Sintang Initiative

As part of Borneo Island, Sintang is blessed with its primary rainforest and vast biodiversity. The fertile soil of this beautiful island has become a livelihood staple for the Sintang people, however, it is under a great threat. Agricultural deforestation has created imbalance within the ecosystem, and must be addressed with an ecological and economic sustainability approach.

Marcello Hernández-Blanco

Marcello Hernández-Blanco has a Ph.D. in Ecological Economics from the Australian National University, a Master of Science in Biodiversity, Wildlife and Ecosystem Health from the University of Edinburgh, a master’s degree in Environmental Management from the Interamerican University of Costa Rica, and a bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering from the Latin University of Costa Rica. His experience spans the United States, Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Colombia, and Australia. 

Felipe Gandra

Felipe joined CSF as a Research Analyst in 2022. He is an economist dedicated to harmonizing environmental protection with social development and economic production. He has 5 years of experience in policy and project analysis related to land and resource use, climate change and sustainable development. Before joining CSF, he worked for FSC International (Bonn) performing data analysis and research for its ecosystem services program.

The First Workshop of 2022 Kicks Off CSF Indonesia’s Marine Fellowship Program Batch 3

The fellows in our Marine Fellowship Program, now in their third year, continue to make a huge impact on local marine policy and national fishery policy across Indonesia. The ongoing fellowship is a partnership between Yayasan Strategi Konservasi Indonesia (YSKI, or CSF Indonesia) and Fakultas Perikanan dan Ilmu Kelautan (FPIK IPB) University, and we recently held a two-day workshop for our Marine Fellowship Program 3 fellows to create a space to share their research accomplishments and plans with their peers.
